Das farbenfrohe Notizbuch wird zunächst mit Bastelfarbe mit einem Farbverlauf gestaltet. Dies gelingt schnell und bequem, indem die Farbe mit einem Malschwämmchen ineinander übergehend aufgetupft wird.

Für das eigentliche Dot Painting werden runde Holzsticks verwendet: die runde Spitze einfach in Farbe tauchen und dann Punkte – hier in Wellenlinien aufbringen. Die verschiedenen Holzstick Stärken ergebben dabei unterschiedliche Punktstärken.

Noch feinere Punkte werden mit der Spitze von Bambusstäbchen getupft.
