Moravian stars are beautiful, decorative stars that can be folded and glued out of paper. These traditional stars are not only a beautiful eye-catcher, but also a creative way to practise your dexterity.

In these basic instructions, we show you step by step how you can easily make your own moravian stars. With a few simple materials and a little patience, you can create atmospheric Christmas decorations or gift tags. Look forward to great crafting fun!
This is how you create the classic moravian stars:

You need 4 paper strips of the same length for each Froebel star. Paper strips with a length of 45 cm and a width of 15 mm are usually used for a classic Froebel star. The selection of paper strips is just as varied as the different sizes of Froebel star. In general, the width to length ratio is 1:30, which means that a paper strip length of 30 cm is required for a width of 1 cm and a length of 60 cm for a width of 2 cm.
1
Fold the paper strips in half and cut the laces diagonally.
2
The four strips are threaded into each other.
3
Pull on the ends to create a square.
4
Fold down the top left-hand strip.
5
Place the left-hand strip over the right-hand strip.
6
Fold the bottom right-hand strip upwards.
7
Thread the top right-hand strip through the loop created by the first folded strip.
8
You have interwoven the strips to create the picture above.
9
Fold the bottom left strip 90° to the back left.
10
Fold the same strip upwards by 90°.
11
Fold the strip to the right towards the centre.

You can now see a jag at the bottom. Fold this backwards.
12
Thread the strip through the lower left eyelet.
13
Fold the point forwards and turn your star to the next lace you want to make.
14
Repeat steps 9 - 13 for the remaining three strips.
15
When the first 4 laces have been made, turn the star over to the back.
16
Now fold the missing laces. To do this, repeat steps 9 - 13. Take a look at steps 16 - 20 for clarification.
17
...fold the same strip upwards by 90°...
18
... fold the bottom left strip to the right to create another lace...
19
...pull the strip you have just made under the existing loop...
20
...pull the end through the loop until the lace is firmly in place.
21
The plastic laces in the shape of a cone are now made with the paper strips on each side of the star.
22
To do this, bend each strip once in the opposite direction.
23
Fold the paper strip in front of you at the top left (the green strip in our example) towards the outside of the star...
24
...and pull the paper strips with the outside through the flap of the paper strip at the bottom right.
25
Pull it through so that a small star tip in the shape of a bag sticks out.
26
Turn the star 90° to the right and repeat steps 22 to 25 for the next star tip.
27
Make all the missing star tips in the same way. Proceed in the same way for the laces on the back of the star.
